The Behaviour Base uses an
Evidence-Based Blended Approach

The Behaviour Base uses a blend of evidence-based practices to support children and their families with their learning and behaviour needs. Ensuring all aspects of a child's development are catered for is fundamental to our practice - including, but not limited to, emotional regulation, development, mental health and well-being.

We take a holistic, person-centred approach ensuring we take into account neurodivergent sensibilities, sensory perceptual difference, subjective accounts, cognitive theory, and a social model of disability.

We use behaviour analytic strategies to teach new skills and generate positive changes in behaviour, as well as Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), Social Communication Emotional Regulation Transactional Support (SCERTS) and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). See below for more information about each of these models.

Our Approaches

ABA

Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA)

is a therapy based on the science of learning and behaviour. Programmes generally target two main areas: skill acquisition and behaviour/emotional regulation.

ABA uses a systematic and objective approach to measure observable behaviour and provides an effective set of tools and strategies based on learning principles that can help individuals learn and develop new skills that are determined to be socially significant for the individual. It is a flexible approach that can be tailored to each individuals strengths and areas of need.

The goal of ABA is to increase independence and quality of life for the individual and their families.

At The Behaviour Base, ABA therapy is naturalistic and fun. We use a person-centred and play-based approach with a focus on harnessing each individuals' motivation to ensure sessions are highly effective and engaging.

SCERTS

Social-Communication, Emotional Regulation and Transactional Support (SCERTS) focuses on teaching emotional regulation and communication.

  • Social Communication - developing relationships and communication skills - building communication, expressing emotions, and developing trusting relationships

  • Emotional Regulation - Helping to manage and regulate emotions - enhancing the skills to sustain a controlled emotional state appropriate for dealing with daily stress and for learning and interacting.

  • Transactional Support - Providing helpful aids to communication and learning -

SCERTS focuses on helping individual become competent and confident social communicator, while proactively reducing challenging behaviours.

PBS

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)

is a behaviour management programme founded on  derived from ABA, person-centred values are an essential ingredient of PBS - emphasises the importance of humanistic values.

CBT

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is the main approach for treating anxiety in children and adults, and there is growing evidence that, with modifications, it can help with the ASD population too.

CBT aims to teach new skills to help manage emotions. Time spent talking about emotions and work on social skills

used to assess how thoughts affect individuals feelngs and behaviours. Supporting clients in identifying their emotions, learn to explore and experience them, understand and manage them.

The Behaviour Base uses CBT strategies to teach children to monitor and manage their own behaviours through changing their perceptions, self-understanding, beliefs,

by learning to become self-aware, the individual can learn strategies for coping and tools for changing negative behaviours into more positive ones. - helps people with ASD to cope with anxiety, recognise their emotions, and beter manage social situations. Like ABA , CBT for autism is tailored to ficus on the specific strengths and areas of needs of the client.
